One of Grand Rapids' best Taquerias. My gauge for a good Tacueria is three fold. Good Lengua, Good Chorizo, and Good Horchata. This place excels on all three fronts. Simply constructed, cheap tacos with fresh ingredients. Don't avoid the specials either. Their Goat Stew was fantastic as is their Ceviche. The range of Honduran specialties is always fun and a good diversion. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Went around 1030 for breakfast on a Sunday and were the only customers. We were given regular menus but had seen the from previous yelp reviews that they had breakfast so I asked about it. They could not seem to find the right menu. Server explained what breakfast offerings they had. All the food was so delicious. Best Mexican/central American breakfast. Loved the breakfast burrito with chorizo and the eggs on the juevos rancheros were cooked perfectly.

I would give them 5 stars but the pastor tacos really had no flavor, tongue tacos were excellent, cabeza tacos had alittle to much fat in it but still pretty good and last but not least the carne asada tacos were amazing my father n law kept talking about them he put some of the guacamole in it with tons of cilantro and onions but wish they would have given us grilled onions like they do in Mexico. The beans and rice were ok wish the beans had white cheese on them. The chips and Guacamole were awesome. The torta was pretty good my husband said he wished it had more meat. The birria soup was good especially with onions, cilantro, lime, and the hot sauce delicious!! Very authentic Mexican food almost as good as going to Mexico but not as good lol. The service was great very kind workers.

I frequently visit this location. I really enjoy the environment and it has a home feel to it. I love the service and the menu. It is not the best looking place but it creates the right environment. I usually have the steak fajitas that come in two sizes. They are delicious and I always have a bit to take home which is nice. I would recommend stopping in this place at least once. They have me going back constantly so they might do the same for you.

Stopped by for lunch on a Thursday and the place was packed! Nice location with plenty of natural lighting. While the word "taqueria" is in the name, I would say there offerings far exceed the common taco/burrito menus found at other establishments. Had the chicken fajitas which were delicious and came with an abundance of fresh veggies. Delicious! Food was reasonably priced (~$16 for two lunch entrees) and came out quickly for a packed lunch. Abundance of parking available, located in a strip mall.

My first (and by no means last!) visit. Had the Lomo con chile de arbol, which was fantastic. 1/8-inch thick medallions of ribeye fried with onions, a fiery and extremely flavorful chile de arbol sauce, avocado slices for a cool contrast, and a big braised jalapeño. Refried beans and Mexican rice, lettuce and tomato on the side. Plus perfect (homemade? Pretty sure) corn tortillas. Outstanding.

With a Groupon in hand, my friend and I arrived at 11am for lunch on a Friday afternoon. The restaurant is easy to find in the BW3's plaza on 28th Street. The restaurant was clean, tidy, and painted warm, inviting colors. I ordered a steak fajita plate with a catus salad (up-charge for the cactus salad) and my friend got the same minus the salad. The food came out quickly however sadly, my cactus salad was missing. Thankfully my friend who spoke fluent Spanish, was able to ask the server about the missing salad (they were out of it and took it off the bill), and requested a side of sour cream for me as well. Our meals were good and quite large. It came out with lettus, a few slices of tomatos, a half of an avacado, beans, rice, and tortilas. The rice, beans and tortilas were my favoriate and I could've gotten full making tacos out of just that. The steak was really chewy but had a nice flavor to it. Watch out for the green salsa! I always think the green salsa is going to be the mild one and it never is. I found it odd that it was completely dead when we arrived and no one else came in during our entire meal. I realize that 11am is still early for lunch for many people so maybe it gets busier later. But all in all, the meal was worth it the Groupon and I'd pay full price for lunch if I was here again.

We stopped here for Saturday lunch with the hopes of finding some good street tacos close to home. They were mediocre. The pastor and chicken didn't have much flavor, but the chorizo was good. The sopes were pretty good, but a little on the doughy side. The service was not the greatest. The server was nice enough, but didn't come by while we were eating and didn't refill drinks at all. There are certainly better places for street tacos and even sopes in town. We will just have to travel a little bit further to get them!

Because of yelp reviews I tried this place. Ordered 4 different types of tacos from here. All were dry as leather. Still looking for good authentic mex in gr. This place is a must miss.

Amazing tacos at great prices. Try the tongue! Can't beat $.99 tacos Monday and Tuesday. It is a good thing I do not live closer.

Went there the other day in the evening. Ordered Taco dinner and sopas. Took abit for the food to show up. Some people who came after us got served first. Waiter did not offer any chips. I asked later and their said you have to order it which I did. Waiter forgot to give us our chips so I went to the counter and asked for it again. The tacos were not bad and the sopas was also ok. But since I have had better tacos (lengua, asado, barbacoa, etc) I would rate theirs a 6 (1-10). Best tacos for me is the one I make at home and this place in Lansing. I usually go to the Mexican meat shop on weekends and get the barbacoa meat and assemble my tacos. I also just buy the tongue and prepare it a home. But I was lazy this weekend. The worst part for me at El Ricon is its lack of ventilation. My eyes were getting a bit watery from the cooking smoke inside which permeated in to my clothing. I do not lake food odor on my clothes. I would rate them a 1 star for this.

I stopped by for some takeout around 7 PM on a weekday night. I almost didn't go in because there were literally no customers and the staff was sitting around on their phones. Feeling bad for the clearly bored staff, my fiancé convinced me to give it a try. I am glad I did. I have the taco dinner. I had two flank steak and one carnitas tacos along with some beans and rice. All were great. I would call the food above average for casual Mexican. The dinner was $6.99 and was plenty of food. I hope business picks up because the food was tasty!

Great casual family Mexican restaurant. Very high quality food and great atmosphere at very low cost. Try the Tamarind juice!

Guac was delicious. My grilled chicken taco and salad were both large portions of food that I had to take home with that said it's delicious food. You can taste the home made aspect. The place was very easy to find in the shopping plaza and it's kinda big and hard to miss. The service was great. The staff helpful. And the food delicious. The guac in the food was perfect. Overall a great lunch experience.

Very good tacos, especially the carne asada; and the horchata is delicious!

Seriously the best ceviche tostada we've had outside South America. Tacos were also top shelf with solid rice and bean sides. Super fresh guac and chips at $2.99, can't beat it! Only down side has been mentioned by others, they need to fix their ventilation. Anyone who doesn't understand the culture of a big Spanish language tv on loud with kids doing homework and family members living in the restaurant won't appreciate how truly great this little shack really is... don't miss it, we need to keep these folks in town!

This place had pretty good food. They have a small menu of what seems to be fairly authentic Mexican (including breakfast) for very reasonable prices. They also have a varied selection of authentic drinks as well. The food isn't the most amazing but it's good enough, particularly for the location. Definitely a good, cheapish lunch spot. A solid 3.5.

Walked in and first thing noticed how clean it is; that is rare in many Taquerias. Had the Pollo Asada and it was really different and very good. Tried the beans and rice and they seemed fresh and homemade. Also, the guacamole was excellent.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
